 Companioning Grief & Loss

Drawing from both personal and professional experiences, I create a supportive environment where your grief is honored and embraced. Additionally, I have received specialized training in providing companionship to individuals navigating grief, loss, or significant life transitions.

Professionalism and Boundaries

I maintain professionalism and healthy boundaries while working with you, creating a safe and respectful coaching relationship. This includes being grounded in my own body while paying attention to somatic and energetic cues from you.

The past few years have seemed like one incredible transition after another, and in the midst of it all, Donna Gray has been a much needed, consistent, and grounding presence in my life. Donna has been my witness, space holder, question asker, and kindness giver.  I appreciate her gifts of reflection, compassion, and especially her courage to ask some of the more challenging questions that help me dig a bit deeper for my truth. It's incredibly valuable to have a coach I can trust, and I can lean  into deeply and fully.

Esalen® Massage Provisional Teacher

Hello, I'm Donna Gray, and I'm honored to share a bit about myself with you. In 2013, I followed the call of the majestic mountains of North Carolina, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of the DC Metro area. The mountains whispered to my soul, and I listened. Embracing a new chapter in my life, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.

At the age of 50, I transitioned into a career as a massage therapist, trained in the nurturing and presence-based techniques of Esalen. Now, as I step into a new decade of my life, I find myself drawn to another avenue of holistic healing — coaching. Guided by the principles of Doug Silsbee's Presence Based Coaching, I'm passionate about empowering individuals to tap into their inner wisdom and unlock their full potential.

However, my journey has also been marked by profound loss and grief. I've experienced loved ones' struggles with addiction, endured the pain of two divorces, and faced the heartache of saying goodbye to beloved pets. I've helped care for both my parents so they could die in the comfort of their own home; cancer took my mom in 2003 and my dad in 2018.

June 10, 2021 is a day that literally sent me to my knees with a guttural scream that came from my soul.  My beautiful son, Ryan, died by suicide. My heart shattered into a million pieces. I now know how going in to shock protects people that are experiencing the unimaginable. That day is a blur of heart wrenching agony and total disbelief. With the grace of my friends and family gently holding me, I got through the first hour, then day, then week . . . my intense grief was all consuming and at times debilitating.

I leaned in to my grief and allowed my feelings to come to the surface, at times it seemed too much to bear. Releasing layer after layer of emotions, then sitting spent staring at the walls. Craving a big hug from Ryan, wanting to hear his laugh, and see his baby blue eyes. Saying his name out loud over and over. Yet, in the midst of darkness, I very slowly began to see glimmers of hope. Like the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold, I began to mend my broken heart. Through honoring my son's life and love, I have discovered strength in vulnerability and resilience in the face of tragedy.

I will never "get over" my grief. I am learning to live my best life with my grief of losing Ryan. Today, I am committed to companioning others through their own journeys of grief, loss, and life transitions. My experiences have taught me that healing is a process — one that requires patience, compassion, and a willingness to embrace imperfection.

As I continue to walk this path of healing and transformation, I invite you to join me. Together, let us discover the beauty in our brokenness and uncover the wisdom that resides within us all.

With warmth and compassion,

Donna Gray
